Lunar Eclipse

Following on from the last post this painting was another depicting the area near the small town of Entrevennes in Haute Provence. I camped there for a couple of nights in late summer 2025. The high plateau, largely fields, a small chapel and a road through the fields leading to the town has a westward view towards Mont Ventoux. Perfectly positioned to see the sun sinking behind Ventoux, I’d estimate some 40 to 50km distant.

Entrevennes evening, oil on canvas, 50×50cm

I wasn’t aware that this particular evening was the date of a lunar eclipse and as the sun set in the west the blood moon rose in the east. Quite the spot, completely by chance and although the image in the painting gives no clue of the auspicious date, it does for me at least carry a nice echo of the event.
